I bought GW2 back in I think around 2012 on release day. If you really want to know more, you might just have to sit in front of the raid training golem and test things out yourself. I'm hesitant to recommend others, mostly because I have little idea how well they'll do while on a core set. All of the elite specs still use double axe + greatsword anyway, so it can still function nearly the same in core. Banners are the most requested function for warrior, so you can equip those, run strength + tactics + discipline, and you'll provide good group buffs while doing O.K. There's a time limit on this one, but for now they're still good to use. Again, most of the utility of thief is in core abilities, so it has a great problem solving toolkit. You can go with Deadly Arts + Critical Strikes + Trickery for some decent boons and boon rip, as well as decent power or condition damage. The old backstab build still hits pretty hard. Core guard retains most of the utility of the elite specs anyway, so you'll be able to solve most problems while doing decent damage. Zeal + Radiance + Virtues would be able to stack some good modifiers and dish out a high amount of damage. There's always fierce competition between the core lines when choosing a guardian build. I don't really test core builds anymore, but if I were to make some suggestions based off of intuition. The hardest obstacle to overcome will be the social pressure of other players, and not the content itself. They're just not "optimal,' which is what Metabattle and Snowcrows publishes. The rest technically summon pets, but even if you build to use just those, they aren't really actually what most people would think of when they think "pet class."Īnet has distanced themselves from pets mostly because they claim to not want people to be lazy with AI driven help.They're all viable.
So currently, if you want a pet class, your best bets really are Ranger or Necro, maybe turret Engi. It is not a special pet mechanic in the way even the guardian spirit weapons are, as both are summoned by specific glyph skills.Īfter that you are looking at specialty skills, thieves one elite skill "Thieve's Guild" or various racial skills (all races can summon things via racial skills), and consumable items with 30 minute cooldowns on a pet whose uptime is about 5 minutes maximum. They summon a pet weapon that has various functions, but they only persist in the world for a somewhat limited time, and can't be kept up permanently, their duration is far short of their cooldown IIRC.Įlementalist elementals summons are the same way as guardian weapon spells, but you can only have 2 out at any given time (one from a normal skill, one from an elite skill) and which one you summon is based on the attunement you have active when summoning. The Guardian has several pet skills, weapon spells. Basically an NPC is summoned and after it does whatever it does, it despawns or self destructs or w/e.
The Scrapper (Engi elite spec) Gyros and Mesmer/Chronomancer illusions are all technically pets, but are not persistent pets.

Most of them are nearly useless though after a long series of nerfs :( The base Engineer can summon turrets, stationary pets. Unless you happen to submerge at all ever while your flesh golem is out in which case you're SOL for the duration of it's cooldown. AFAIK, if they aren't killed, the ones summoned directly by the 6-0 utility skills will persist permanently otherwise. The next closest is the Necromancer, who can summon pets, and they will persist untill killed, unless their pet active skill (that replaces the summon) kills them for some reason, at least one of them acts this way. Ranger is the only one unlucky enough to be stuck with one that never goes away and can never be properly deactivated in any way at all.
